Three more Nests on IOP and One Nest with three false crawls on SI
Another very busy day for the Island Turtle Team. We were doing an educational program on the beach again this season for the IOP Recreation Center when we kept getting more calls that our members were finding loggerhead tracks on both islands. Right now the heatwave is causing dangerous conditions for being outdoors and some people are struggling against heat exhaustion even early in the morning. Staying hydrated is very important. Two More IOP Nests Today
Nest #13 for the Isle of Palms was laid near the 5th Avenue Access Path and found by Susan Lipsey and Jenn Connell at sunrise on a beautiful June morning. This section of beach will undergo sand pumping renourishment starting in September, after this nest hatches. SCDNR has given permission for us to leave nests laid early in the season in this area under our nesting permit.
