Inventories of IOP Nests 3 and 5
Nest 3 was found on May 27 by Becky Dale, Franny Brumfield and Linda Dunne lower on the beach at 28th Ave where the trucks drive and tide floods. It was moved up onto the dune at the same location. It incubated for 57 days and contained 128 eggs. At today's inventory we found 117 empty eggshells and 10 undeveloped eggs. There were no hatchlings left in the nest three days after all 117 hatchlings came out. Hatch and Emergence was a very successful 91.4%.
Nest 5 was laid two days later on May 29 at 40th Ave low on the beach. It contained 122 eggs and was found by Shelli Ciandella with her new baby Sophie, Kimberly Mallos with her son Cameron, and Bill Evans on patrol. It was a surprise to have a May nest incubate for only 55 days, but it has been a hot summer. Today there were 114 empty eggshells and only 7 undeveloped eggs and no hatchlings left in the nest three days after all 114 made it out. Hatch Success here was 93.4%.
This means no hatchlings were released to crawl to the ocean today, only eggs and eggshells to see.
