Inventories of Nest #12 and #15 IOP August 7

Nest #12 was found on June 16 at the 9th Avenue Access vehicular access path and in the Corps of Engineers sand project area by Trisha Hoff, Jeannie Milota and Peggy Klimecki. It contained 123 egg that were relocated to near the 30A path. It incubated for 49 days before producing turtles on August 4. Our inventory today revealed 123 empty eggshells, 30 undeveloped eggs and no hatchlings left in the nest. Hatch and Emergence Success were both 73.9%.
Nest #15 was discovered by Bev Miller and Aelecia Rideout on June 18 near Grand Pavilion in Wild Dunes and contained 99 eggs. It also had hatchlings emerge from the nest on August 4 after 47 days of incubation. At inventory we found 89 empty eggshells and six live hatchlings that were released by Sue Googer and Barbara Allen to crawl to the water in front of an admiring crowd of onlookers. Hatch Success was 89.8% and Emergence Success was 83.8%.
