Nest #18
Team members Diane Mullins, Maryalice Morro and two of their friends - Ann Beasley far left and Betsy Walker far right in the photo, reported tracks between Ocean Club Club Villas and the Ocean Point houses at the north end of the Isle of Palms in Wild Dunes near Dewees Inlet this morning. The nest contained only 98 eggs that were moved off the flat beach to a spot just south of the 30th Avenue Access Path after a genetics sample was taken.
Another nest was laid near the 9th Avenue vehicular access path and in the active US Army Corps of Engineers renourishment project area between 2nd and 10th Avenues. This nest was right at the junction of the two patrol sections which are from Breach Inlet to 9th Ave and from 9th Ave to 30th Avenue. Tay Thompson was first to report these tracks as well as more tracks two doors north at 904 Ocean Blvd. Tay was on patrol with Susan Chagrin and Jennifer Martin. The other team members from the south section were also there including Helen Sullivan, Eileen Dulany, Sallie Campbell, Jeannie Yzquierdo and Joanne Robinson who all got to see the eggs. There were 101 eggs laid in this nest which were relocated near to Nest #18 near 30th Avenue with another genetics sample taken. It appeared that it is likely the same turtle also made False Crawl #9 two doors north of the nest where she climbed to the top of the newly created dune at "Casa Maguerita" the green rental house at 904 Ocean. We don't know why she did not lay eggs there. But we were glad that she likely laid Nest #18 closeby a little later in the night according to the tide lines and her tracks. There was also a false crawl reported by Bill Evans near 37th Avenue.
