Two more nests on IOP and a false crawl on Sullivan's May 31

The Turtle Team was kept busy the last day of May. The first call came from Cindy Judy just north of 30th Avenue on IOP when she started her walk along with Paul and Rita Koisch in that section. A loggerhead laid 120 eggs very low on the beach well below the spring tide flood line and in the path of vehicles that drive on the beach regularly. This nest was moved onto a low primary dune at that same location two doors north of 30th Avenue. This is Nest #6 for this island.

Then Jessica Hatfield reported a false crawl near the Station 26 1/2 St. Access Path on Sullivan's Island. This turtle did not even make it to the high tide line before turning around in the damp sand and not digging an egg chamber. We hope she will return to this popular spot again and lay some eggs.

Nest #7 for the Isle of Palms was discovered by Penny Gorby and Shree Beverly who found Nest #4 on their last Saturday walk in Wild Dunes. Shree's family was here and her two grandsons Wyatt and Brooks got to see the eggs. Eggs in this clutch seemed to vary in size. The nest of 114 eggs was laid near the Ocean Point boardwalk in Dewees Inlet and relocated to Beach Club Villas. When the eggs were being carried off the beach, there was snake that looked like a corn snake on the path. At least it wasn't a venomous copperhead which are often seen on these beach paths.
