Inventory of Nest 5 on IOP July 25

Nest #5 was found by Laura Lovins, Holly Barron, Allen Owens and Bryan Stephens on May 29 at Ocean Club Villas at the north end of Wild Dunes. There were 124 eggs that were relocated a little south of the Property Owners Beach House at Beach Club Villas. After 52 days one hatchling came out, two nights later there was a major “boil” of turtles from it at 54 days. Three crab holes were in the nest when we began the inventory, but all of them were gone to the relief of team members who were digging. They discovered 109 empty eggshells, 14 undeveloped eggs and 6 deceased hatchlings. To the disappointment of the people attending the inventory, there were no live turtles to release this morning. Hatch Success was 87.9% and Emergence Success was 83%.
