Inventory of Sullivan's Nest 1 and Nest #35 for Isle of Palms

Nest 1 on SI was found by Terri George and Kelsey Willey on May 15 and was the first nest of the season on either island. It was not relocated, so we did not know until today the number of eggs in it. It was laid at the Sullivan’s Island Elementary School and incubated for 61 days. This morning's inventory revealed 89 empty eggshells and 28 eggs that did not develop. There was one dead hatchling in the nest and there were 14 live ones. Terri released the hatchlings to crawl to the ocean before an appreciative crowd containing many children. Hatch Success was 75.4% and Emergence Success was 63.5%.

Nest #35 on the Isle of Palms along with two other false crawls on IOP and two more on SI this morning shows us that our loggerheads are not quite finished for the season. Diane Troy, Cindy Moore and Karin Ritter patrolled the north end in Wild Dunes and found a nest at 40 Ocean Point Drive that contained 89 eggs before giving the ALL CLEAR report for the contractors setting up the renourishment equipment once the eggs were relocated to a spot near 3100 Palm Blvd.
