Today we had loggerhead tracks at 25th Ave that measured 25" found by Kathy Magruder, but it was a false crawl with no eggs laid.

Then Jodie Morgan, Frannie Bryan, Lynn Holgate and Ellen Thomas, along with her dog Nova, reported Nest #10 at 622 Ocean Blvd on June 10th. This nest was laid just south of 7th Avenue and contained only 70 eggs. This was a smaller turtle than the one reported at 25th Avenue earlier.

The nest was laid at the base of the new dune in the active project area where the US Army Corps of Engineers is pumping more sand onto the beach. The wind had erased most of the body pit, and the sand was soft and not compacted after being dumped there. However, we were able to quickly find the small clutch of eggs and relocated them to a safer spot between the 30th and 30A Access Paths. (Double click on image to see whole photo)
