Our nesting loggerheads really seem to prefer the north end of the island in spite of the severe erosion. Paige Hauff and Diane Troy discovered tracks from last night at Ocean Club Villas and at Cedar Creek in Dewees Inlet that had the same measurement. But in both places, the steeply eroded beach apparently did not suit her, and she went back into the ocean without laying eggs.
Nest #18: But another slightly smaller turtle crawled up near 57th Avenue and laid 122 eggs. Gillian Ellis and her dad, Richard Ellis are both professional photographers and reported these tracks leading to the nest. As usual, the nest required relocation because of the sand pumping from offshore starting in a couple of weeks. After Gillian and Richard helped us with counting the eggs, the nest was moved to safety in a spot at 2916 Palm Blvd for incubation.
