This morning Ed Peyser and Annie Vola were covering the south end of the Isle of Palms when Ed found loggerhead tracks three doors south of the 7th Avenue path. It is possible that this same turtle crawled up on the beach near the 9A Access Path earlier in the night because Pam Bridges reported tracks the same size there. But the turtle did not dig a nest at that spot. Near 7th Avenue we found 103 eggs in a shallow nest with one broken shell that was used for genetics research. They were moved to 30th Avenue not only because they were laid where the tide would have washed over them, but also because this is the area where sand would have been pumped over them with the upcoming renourishment project.
