Nest #23 for IOP & #10 for SI

This morning Linda Forslund, Lori Nelson, Liz Hartzell and Patti Porfelli found tracks near 49th Avenue at the north end of their route that led to Nest #23. It was a large clutch of 147 that appeared a little small for loggerhead eggs. They were relocated to a dune between the 30th and 30A beach access paths.

On Sullivan's Island where large tankers were passing offshore in the shipping channel, Jenn Gragg and Joanne Staton with Joanne's dog Archie first found a false crawl at Station 16 1/2 and then Nest #10 for the SI Turtle Team. Both sets of tracks were the same as the Carolina Day loggerhead who false crawled four times yesterday. She first went into the dead trees in the maritime forest and then found another bad spot at the foot of a steeply eroded dune close to the Station 16 vehicular path where the tide comes all the way up to where the eggs were laid. To keep it from being ruined by the tide, we moved the 107 eggs to a dune close to Station 20.
