Nest #26 for IOP

Evidently the loud and bright fireworks for the 4th of July did not deter this patriotic turtle from laying her eggs early in the night. She crawled up a small escarpment but did not get anywhere near the spring tide line, so the nest likely would not have survived into the fall to hatch. Rene Rivlin, Terri Stafford and Ann Evans were on patrol and discovered this small nest of 78 eggs near the 34A path while picking up many bags of litter left behind on the Independence Day holiday. The trash containers on the beach where the nest was laid were overflowing onto the dune. The nest was relocated to a dune just south of the 30A Access Path where we could see a bride and groom with a photographer and officiant being married at 30th Avenue nearby.
