Nest 9 for Sullivan's

Nest #9: Sullivan's Island is doing well compared to some seasons with four nests in the last five days. Today Jenn Gragg, Diane Brumley and Joanne Staton along with Joanne's dog Archie found Nest #9. These expert nest finders spotted very short indistinct tracks that led up to the rock boulders at Fort Moultrie just southwest of the Station 13 Access Path where a huge Carolina Day celebration is going to take place this weekend to celebrate the Revolutionary Battle of Fort Sullivan. This turtle dug her nest right in the line of piled up spartina wrack sticks that wash up from the marsh behind the island. But we were not fooled and easily found the spot where an extra large clutch of 135 precious eggs was buried. This nest would not have survived the high tides that wash up onto those granite boulders when the moon phase is full or new. We relocated this nest to a safe place northeast of the Station 19 path.
