Nests 29 & 30 Inventoried
Nest 29 was laid on July 9 at Port O’Call in Wild Dunes and discovered by Allen Owens, Bryan Stevens, Laura Lovins & Holly Baron. This was when they were starting to set up for the renourisment project and we were glad to get it moved safely before that began. There were 116 eggs that incubated for 49 days. Today we found that 95 out of 116 eggs had hatched because there were 20 unhatched plus the one genetics sample egg. There were 3 dead hatchlings and 10 live ones that were released by Allen, Bryan, Laura & Holly to crawl to the water. Hatch Success was 81.8%.
Nest 30 was one of four nests that were found the morning of June 9 (3 on IOP and 1 on SI). It was laid at 31st Avenue low on the beach below the spring tide line. Jane Powers, Sue Googer & Debi Magee found it on their patrol between 49th and 30th Avenues. It contained 103 eggs that were relocated closer to the dune to avoid being flooded or run over where the trucks drive that part of the beach. After 47 days it produced hatchlings. Today's inventory showed 87 empty shells, 15 undeveloped eggs and 12 live hatchlings that were released by Jane, Sue & Debi.
Hatch Success was 84.4%.
