Three More Inventories

Today the rain was offshore but held off long enough for us to conduct inventories on Isle of Palms Nests 8, 11 and 12.
Nest 8 was found at Beachwood East by Bev Miller and Aelecia Rideout on June 3 and contained 101 eggs. It incubated for 57 days before hatchlings came out sometime in the night on July 30. We found 64 empty eggshells, 36 undeveloped eggs and no hatchlings dead or alive still in the nest. Hatch Success was 63.3%.
Nest 11 was laid in the same section as Nest 8 near 52nd Avenue by Deborah Johnson, Debbie Mann, Linda Conrad and Paula Mead on June 4. There were 120 eggs in this one that incubated for 56 days and hatchlings emerged from the nest on July 30. There were 64 empty eggshells, 55 unhatched eggs, 3 dead hatchlings and one live hatchling that was released to crawl to the water by Linda and Paula who found the nest at 52nd Avenue. Hatch Success was 53.3%.
Nest 12 was relocated from Port O’Call in Wild Dunes on June 6 and was discovered by Shree Beverly, Penny Gorby and Eileen Montanaro. This one contained 81 eggs and took 54 days to hatch on July 30. We found 74 empty eggshells, 6 undeveloped eggs and no hatchlings left in the nest to release. Hatch Success was 91.3%.
