Nest #2 at Station 18 ½ was discovered by Diane Brumley and Jenn Gragg on June 2nd. Although it was left at the base of the primary dune to incubate, the tide never reached it. We did add more ribbon and even a strip of lawn edging to keep the hatchlings from going back the wrong way this week since it was the new moon phase with no light to guide them to the ocean. It incubated for 55days, and today it was inventoried. We found 96 empty eggshells, 13 undeveloped eggs and 3 live hatchlings still in the nest. Although this nest was plagued by ghost crabs from time to time, it did well. Diane released the three turtles to crawl to the water. Hatch Success was 87.2% and Emergence Success was 84.5%.
